Jesus acknowledges that living in the world is difficult...and living as a follower of Jesus does not make it any easier. But Jesus promises his support and protection through his Spirit as we are sent into the world to be his witnesses - by word and example.
I wonder how I could live like this without the love and support that our community provides, too? The Spirit filled Beloved Community of St. Michael's is on fire with this witness to each other and to our neighborhood!
I can feel it!  Can you?

See you in church!

Good news May 16, 2024

Memorial Lamps - The experience of the pandemic is highlighting what is truly important to our community. It is apparent that the need for fresh flowers on the altar each week is not a burning desire. With that in mind, we will halt the regular purchase of flowers but continue to accept memorial donations for lamps. These donations support our worship supplies such as bread, wine, linens, candles, and oils. Please contact Tracey on reserving a date. Lamps are $7 each.

Let us pray for peace: Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen. (BCP pg 815)

Social Development Coalition

Thanks to all our supporters who came to hear and encourage our proposal, especially Bishop Bonnie, Dean Andrea, our vestry and so many parishioners!

PROPOSAL SUMMARY

This report proposes to formalize the existing ad hoc, all-volunteer Lincoln Park Social Development Coalition and integrate it into official operations of the City of Lincoln Park. The new official body would serve the Mayor, Council, and staff by advising the City about actions that can improve the social well-being of residents. The idea is that this body would function in a similar manner to the existing economic development corporation: it will have a board of local experts; it will have staff to serve it; and it will have measurable indicators of success.
Why would this benefit the City of Lincoln Park? We think that government at all levels focuses very tightly on economic issues, with much less time, attention, and funding going toward social issues. Yet these are the true quality-of-life factors, which residents hold leaders accountable for. By attending to them directly, the City is fulfilling its service obligation to the community in an innovative way, with the potential for better results.

The proposal does not require much additional funding, because it centers on coordination and communication among efforts that already exist. It is a unique approach that could attract the attention of others in the public and nonprofit sectors who are interested in supporting its further development.

This is the tireless effort of five years of work with our Wayne State Social Work interns and many of our neighboring organizations. We plan to continue our work to make a difference in Lincoln Park!
